Yoga at the Office, a Practice That Inspire

Yoga en la oficina, una práctica que entusiasma

So far this year, I’ve already heard the same phrase three times: “I’m leaving the company, and what I’ll miss most are the yoga classes with you.”

I find it very touching and human to build these connections with people you only see for an hour a week, who allow themselves to be guided, adjusted, and supported with such trust.

It’s true that often yoga “hurts”: there are challenging postures, movements that feel uncomfortable, and tensions that come to the surface. Yet they keep coming regularly, knowing that no matter what, they always leave the office yoga class feeling better than when they arrived.

This consistency is one of the things that makes yoga for employees so special: small sessions that have a real impact on physical and mental wellbeing, with effects that can be felt even outside the room.

WHAT OFFICE YOGA LOOKS LIKE

Imagine an hour-long lunch break. Instead of eating quickly while discussing a project or a deadline, you decide to join your colleagues to practice yoga at the office.

You are in your usual workspace, and the instructor arrives to give a corporate yoga class. No travel, no extra fees, no complications.

The session begins with a brief meditation to center attention and release accumulated tension. Then you move on to stretches that relieve stiffness in the neck and shoulders through controlled movements and mindful breathing. You extend and flex your spine, roll your shoulders, open space in your joints, and release lower back tension.

Next, we do specific corporate yoga exercises designed to counteract hours of sitting: movements that activate deep muscles, stretches for the shoulders and upper back, and breathing exercises that help calm the mind. We also include techniques to improve posture, prevent common aches, and even eye relaxation exercises to care for eyes exposed to screens.

At the end of the session, the effect is immediate: calm, energy, and mental clarity. This is the essence of office yoga: stepping away from the routine to move, breathe, and reconnect with yourself in a simple and effective way.

As Ana Patricia Botín, president of Banco Santander, says: “I declare myself addicted to yoga and tea.” Even the busiest leaders find in yoga a space to take care of themselves and regain mental clarity.

WHY CORPORATE YOGA MATTERS

Corporate yoga is not a new concept, but in recent years it has gained the attention it deserves. More and more employees are asking their companies for real wellness benefits. They want to feel that their health matters and that it’s not just about meeting goals.

After nearly fifteen years in the corporate world, I know firsthand the impact of integrating yoga into the office as part of a company culture. My corporate yoga students look forward to the class as a moment to calm their minds, release tension, and practice presence.

Many have chosen to stay for class instead of going to an afterwork with colleagues, knowing that moving their bodies makes them feel more centered and energized for the next day.

Years ago, I wondered why meditation and movement weren’t offered during the workday. Today, more and more companies include yoga for employees as part of their wellness benefits.

80% of employees consider mental health and wellbeing benefits important.

92% say it is very or somewhat important that their company values their emotional and psychological wellbeing.

Corporate yoga benefits both employees and employers: it helps to disconnect, open the mind, and restore focus.

In high-pressure environments, the nervous system can easily become unbalanced, leading to physical, psychological, and cognitive symptoms. I’ve seen the effects on people experiencing insomnia, anxiety, or mental blocks. Taking time to move and breathe during the workday helps clear the mind and improves concentration, while also boosting mood and motivation.

Some employees tell me that office yoga classes are the only time they can dedicate to their physical wellbeing during the day. Others say it allows them to approach challenging meetings more calmly and make decisions with greater clarity.

Even in companies with long hours and intense work, I’ve seen how simply reserving an hour for yoga changes the team dynamic: there is more listening, more respect, and a calmer, more focused environment.

Often, my classes include practical exercises employees can repeat at their desks: short stretches, deep breaths, and micro-meditations that help maintain proper posture, reduce stress, and improve concentration. Learning to integrate these habits into daily life is an essential part of corporate yoga.

THE CORPORATE YOGA SESSION

A typical class lasts 60 minutes and combines breathing, joint mobility, visualization, and sound meditation. It adapts to all levels, with variations for beginners and advanced practitioners.

I also offer workshops and themed retreats. For example, a tech company’s innovation team hired me to guide a meditation before presenting an important project. Hybrid sessions work very well in company-wide meetings or conferences.

In addition to regular classes, many corporate yoga programs include sessions for common office issues: lower back pain, neck and shoulder stiffness, eye strain, anxiety, or lack of focus.

Including these sessions regularly helps prevent injuries, improve posture, and foster long-term healthy habits.

WHERE CORPORATE YOGA TAKES PLACE

I’ve taught classes at offices, in our studio, and at external spaces for corporate events. iNSIDE collaborates with hotels and retreat centers within and outside Spain, where we have been organizing yoga retreats for years.

For remote or hybrid teams, we also offer online classes via Zoom. The important thing is not where the class happens, but that it happens.

THE PRACTICE OF CORPORATE YOGA

If the session celebrates an achievement or marks the start of a new cycle, I incorporate a dynamic flow with visualization moments to focus energy toward goals. If the environment is tired or stressed, I offer practices centered on breathing to calm the nervous system and reconnect with internal energy.

Each corporate yoga session also encourages interaction and collaboration among colleagues. Practicing together, sharing space, and moving mindfully creates bonds that sometimes don’t happen in the normal routine. This adds real value to the team: more collaboration, communication, and trust.

Office yoga is much more than a perk: it’s an investment in health, productivity, and emotional wellbeing. Companies that offer yoga for employees not only care for their teams but also create more sustainable and humane work environments.

And it’s not just about preventing health problems: it also helps boost creativity, focus, and motivation, all of which directly impact productivity and job satisfaction.
